The Encore Initiative is an intergenerational music service program that connects local high-school musicians and our senior communities.
Many senior citizens residing in senior care facilities experience isolation, limited social interaction, and a “mismatch” of engagement. This can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, and a decline in cognitive function.
Additionally, there is often a lack of opportunities for young people to engage in meaningful community service and share their talents with others. The Encore Initiative aims to address these issues by establishing a sustainable music program that connects local high school musicians with senior residents who reside in the area and live in senior living communities.
